132 armed criminals nabbed from Nepali capital this year

    KATHMANDU, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- As many as 132 persons along with weapons have been arrested from Nepali capital Kathmandu this year whereas 29 are still at large, police said on Saturday.

    Police started a campaign to curb armed criminals in Kathmandu district after their activities increased since last year.

    "Gangs of armed criminals used to capture business tenders and sand harvesting contracts," said Sarvendra Khanal of the Kathmandu Police, talking to eKantipur.com website.

    Khanal said the police have confiscated 22 pistols, 12 revolvers, nine hand made pistols and 132 live bullets from them.

    According to the police, the ones arrested include heads of gangland, kidnappers, members of armed struggle groups and operators of restaurant and dance bars.

    "The more number of filed complaints and arrests made then after bodes the decrease in crime rate," Khanal said, "That is why there is no case of gun attack in the capital city for last few months."
