BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Argentine press on
Friday lamented the "Sad Night" of Boca Juniors and River Plate, the two most
important teams in Argentina that were eliminated at the South American Cup
quarterfinals.
"Can not believe it!" the press said when referring
to the tie 2-2 of River Plate with Mexican team Chivas club during a match in
Guadalajara, Mexico, River's coach Diego Simeone is about to resign.
Local daily "Clarin" said that River "played an
impeccable first half, like champions", but during the second half "the team
made mistakes twice and finished out of the Cup."
"This is River: the last champion and the last
tournament. A team that goes with everything and makes five, six, seven clear
goal situations but it does not fulfill them, the other team attacks two or
three times and are able to tie," the press said.
Argentines Juniors-Estudiantes de la Plata and
Chivas-Inter will play the semifinals of the South America Cup.
Simeone resigns as River Plate coach
BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- River Plate coach Diego Simeone resigned on Friday and he will coach his last match with River on Sunday against Huracan club during the opening local tournament.
Simeone informed his decision to River's directors in Guadalajara, Mexico, after River was eliminated on Thursday night by the Mexican club Chivas from the quarterfinal of the South American Cup. Full story
