UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- A delegation from the UN Peace-building Commission is conducting a week-long mission in the Central African Republic (CAR), which remains beset by unrest and widespread displacement in the north and entrenched poverty across the country, said a UN press release issued Wednesday.

The 10-member delegation, which is led by Ambassador Jan Grauls of Belgium, who chairs the Commission's configuration on the CAR, is meeting with key government ministers in the capital city of Bangui including the economic, planning and international cooperation ministers.

The meetings, which conclude Thursday, will focus on the CAR's peace-building priorities and challenges, and also the nature and scope of the international support the country will need as it tries to rebuild after years of conflicts.

In June, the CAR became the fourth country to be placed on the agenda of the UN Peace-building Commission, which aims to help countries emerging from conflict avoid sliding back into war or chaos.
