JAKARTA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Zhou Yongkang, on Sunday evening met with leaders of major Indonesian parties.

    "The CPC has conducted good exchanges with Indonesian political parties," Zhou, one of the nine-member Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, told leaders of seven Indonesian parties.

    The seven parties included the ruling Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party, United Development Party, Democratic Party, Prosperous Justice Party, National Awakening Party, Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle.

    Zhou said party-to-party exchange and cooperation is an important part of bilateral relations and a vital driving force for growth of ties.

    The inter-party exchange would provide a channel and platform for the statesmen in all countries to share party-building and governance experience and to study issues of common concern, he said.

    As China and Indonesia are faced with many similar challenges in their development, the political parties in the two countries are confronted with questions of how to fit in with the times and new situation, Zhou said.

    "The CPC would like to work with Indonesian parties to promote the long-term, steady and sound growth of bilateral ties and make more contributions to the stability and prosperity of Asia," he said.

    On the Indonesian side, leaders of seven parties said though they are divided on domestic policies, they all support developing the ties with China.

    They said they back the one-China policy and hoped China would play a bigger role in international issues.

    Zhou also briefed them on China's reform and opening-up drive and some experiences of the CPC.

    Among those leaders was Agung Laksono, speaker of Indonesia's People's Representative Council and vice-chairman of the ruling Golkar Party.
