Blast kills two in SW Pakistan

    ISLAMABAD, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least two persons were killed and 11 others injured in a blast in southwestern Pakistan on Monday, according to private TV channel DAWN NEWS.

    The blast took place near the district courts in Quetta, capital city of southwestern Balochistan province, reported DAWN NEWS.

    The News Network International news agency quoted Inspector General of Police Qazi Abdul Waheed as saying that some unknown militants had parked a explosive-laden car in the parking lot of the city's Liaquat Park.

    The blast in the sensitive area also destroyed five cars and five rickshaws which caught fire. Fire fighters were called to extinguish the fire.

    Some other important buildings including Iranian consulate, offices of the provincial governor and chief ministers are also located near the blast site.

    Police said that locally-made explosives were used in the blast.

    No group claimed responsibility for the incident.

    The injured were taken to the city's Civil Hospital for treatment. Doctors said two injured were registered in critical condition.

    Traders closed shops in panic in various busy areas in the city and the police cordoned off the area soon after the blast.
