BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to make efforts to ensure the healthy and stable development of relations with Chad, senior Chinese official Zhou Yongkang said here on Friday.

Zhou, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, was meeting with a delegation from theruling Patriotic Salvation Movement of Chad (MPS) led by secretary general Mahamat Saleh Adoum Djorou.

Zhou, also the CPC Central Political and Legislative Affairs Committee secretary, cited the growth of bilateral ties in fields such as politics, trade, culture and education, saying China understood the efforts made by Chadian government and MPS to promote national development.

China was willing to boost exchanges and cooperation with Chad to promote solidarity and common prosperity in Africa, Zhou told Adoum.

China and Chad established formal diplomatic links in 1972 but China severed diplomatic relations with Chad in 1997 when the country resumed diplomatic ties with Taiwan.

The two countries restored diplomatic relations in 2006.

Zhou expressed the CPC's commitment to intensify exchanges and cooperation with the MPS.

Adoum, who is also a special advisor to the Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno, said the MPS would work closer with the CPC.

Adoum is in China from Oct. 19 to 27 as a guest of the CPC.
