BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to make
efforts to ensure the healthy and stable development of relations with Chad,
senior Chinese official Zhou Yongkang said here on Friday.
Zhou, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC
Central Committee Political Bureau, was meeting with a delegation from theruling
Patriotic Salvation Movement of Chad (MPS) led by secretary general Mahamat
Saleh Adoum Djorou.
Zhou, also the CPC Central Political and Legislative
Affairs Committee secretary, cited the growth of bilateral ties in fields such
as politics, trade, culture and education, saying China understood the efforts
made by Chadian government and MPS to promote national development.
China was willing to boost exchanges and cooperation
with Chad to promote solidarity and common prosperity in Africa, Zhou told
Adoum.
China and Chad established formal diplomatic links in
1972 but China severed diplomatic relations with Chad in 1997 when the country
resumed diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
The two countries restored diplomatic relations in
2006.
Zhou expressed the CPC's commitment to intensify
exchanges and cooperation with the MPS.
Adoum, who is also a special advisor to the Chadian
President Idriss Deby Itno, said the MPS would work closer with the CPC.
Adoum is in China from Oct. 19 to 27 as a guest of
the CPC.
