LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Former U.S. first lady Nancy Reagan was hospitalized on Wednesday with a fractured pelvis and sacrum she suffered during a fall, her spokeswoman said.

Reagan, 87, fell at her Los Angeles home last week, but did not go to the hospital until Monday, said Joanne Drake.

The former first lady is being treated at the Ronald Reagan Medical Center at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).

Surgery is not necessary, but "she will remain at UCLA for a few days, until doctors are satisfied with her progress, and then return home," Drake said, adding that her recovery is expected to take six to eight weeks.

"Mrs. Reagan is in good spirits, especially comforted to be receiving care from talented doctors in a world-class hospital named in honor of her late husband," Drake said.

Reagan has been widowed since June 5, 2004 when her husband Ronald Reagon died after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
