RAMALLAH, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli army troop stormed on Tuesday al-Far'a refugee camp in the north of the West Bank city of Nablus to arrest Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement's activists, Palestinian security sources said.
The sources said three people were shot when the soldiers opened fire at the refugee camp during an attempt to break into one of the houses to arrest an Islamic Jihad activist. One of the casualties is in moderate conditions.
Palestinian residents said dozens of Israeli soldiers of the elite underground units, backed by Israeli army forces, stormed the refugee camp on Tuesday morning to arrest Islamic Jihad activists.
They said several Islamic Jihad militants exchanged fire with the soldiers in the refugee camp, and finally managed to escape.
Islamic Jihad sources in the refugee camp said the Israeli soldiers were looking for Sami al-Ghoul, 29, a senior Jihad militant wanted by Israel since 2006.
Clashes also erupted between dozens of residents and the Israeli soldiers, who fired tear gas canisters to disperse them.
Egypt has mediated a truce between Gaza militant groups and Israel. The truce, which came into effect in June, will only last six months and excludes the West Bank.
