RAMALLAH, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Israeli troops in the West Bank arrested 19 Palestinians across the occupied territory, Israel Radio reported on Tuesday.
The arrests were conducted in Qalqilya, Tulkarem, Ramallah, Bethlehem and Hebron and the detainees were taken for interrogation, an army spokesman was quoted as saying.
However, the spokesman did not disclose the identities of the detainees, but said that they were wanted by the Jewish state's security and intelligence services.
The Israeli army recently intensifies raids in the West Bank to chase down what it calls wanted Palestinian activists.
Meanwhile, Islamic Jihad movement said that the Israeli forces failed to arrest one of its militants in a raid in the West Bank city of Nablus. But a neighbor of the wanted activist was wounded when Israeli soldier opened fire at his house.
A recent research said that the number of Palestinian prisoners Israel holds was about 10,000, who serve in more than 25 prisons and detention facilities.
