HANOI, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Chief of Army Major General Neo Kian Hong on Monday began a three-day friendship official visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of Lieutenant General Pham Hong Loi, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Vietnam News Agency reported.

    Neo Kian Hong and Pham Hong Loi agreed in their meeting that the ground forces of the two armies should promote cooperation through the exchange of delegations, training and the sharing of experiences on coping with natural disasters and epidemic prevention.

    The two sides planned to sign a memorandum of understanding regarding defence cooperation, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of solidarity and mutual understanding between the peoples and armed forces of Vietnam and Singapore.

    Gen Neo Kian Hong also paid a courtesy visit to Nguyen Khac Nghien, Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army on Monday.
