KABUL, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has captured a suspected senior Taliban commander Mullah Sakhi Dad in southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, said an ISAF statement released here on Sunday.
"Without firing a shot, ISAF soldiers captured Mullah Sakhi Dadand another insurgent while searching a compound in Tarin Kot district of Uruzgan in the early morning on Oct. 1," the statement said.
Mullah Sakhi Dad, according to the statement, had links with the ordering and coordination of suicide bombers in Uruzgan and with connection to the Taliban leadership, especially Mullah Berader Akhund, the Taliban's second in command.
"Sakhi Dad was given the opportunity to reconcile his actions and be at peace with the Afghan people, but he went against his word and re-commenced attacks on innocent Afghan civilians," the statement quoted the Ministry of Interior spokesperson Zamari Basheri as saying.
Taliban insurgents, who have staged a comeback three years ago and intensified their activities targeting interests of the Afghan government and international troops, have yet to make any comments.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 4,000 people, mostly militants, so far this year.
