ANTANANARIVO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Madagascan President Marc Ravalomanana has
called here for improvement of justice to meet the needs of the people as well
as investors in the island country.
Inaugurating a new building for the Supreme Court on Wednesday,
Ravalomanana urged judges, registrars and justice employees to improve their
work to meet the challenge of quickly submissions for consideration by the
court.
He told governmental, institutional and justice officials that in the
fast-changing world and at the moment of many difficulties, they have political
and moral responsibility to assume their duty.
Before the Minister of Justice Bakolalao Ramanandraibe and diplomatic
corps, the president said that his government wants to demonstrate its
commitment to justice in Madagascar, to make it more accessible to citizens,
more transparent and more humane to ensure that institutions in the country had
been consistent, stronger and more respected.
According to Le Quotidien, a French-language daily published here on
Thursday, the president told the gathering that people and investors expect
equal justice for everyone, rapid processing of files with transparency in the
procedure, and strengthening the fight against corruption.
"It is crucial to share responsibilities and to demonstrate our leadership
capacity to strengthen good governance and the rule of law in Madagascar and I
appeal to leaders at all levels to cope with the challenges of changing our
attitudes and our actions to build a new Madagascar", Ravalomanana concluded.
The ceremony was held shortly after the close of a government council
meeting, during which Ravalomanana appealed to the army, the gendarmerie, the
police and justice to show discipline and efficiency in carrying out their
missions.
The present legal system in Madagascar is based upon French codes and
practices, in which there is a Constitutional High Court, a High Court of
Justice, a Supreme Court, a Court of Appeal, Criminal Tribunals, and Tribunals
of First Instance.
