Russian rocket sends Thai satellite into orbit

    MOSCOW, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- A Russian carrier rocket sent into orbit a Thai satellite on Wednesday, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

    The Dnepr rocket, developed on the basis of the RC-20B intercontinental ballistic missile and with the Theos remote sensing satellite atop, was launched from the Dombarovsky district in the Ural Orenburg region Wednesday morning.

    "It was a scheduled space launching carried out in accordance with a plan of the activities of Russian Strategic Purpose Troops (RVSN) in the framework of the Dnepr program," Itar-Tass cited a RVSN spokesman Colonel Alexander Vovk as saying.
