BRUSSELS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Groningen continued
their unbeaten record on Sunday with a convincing 3-1 home victory against
Feyenoord and regained the top spot in the Dutch premier league standings, which
was snatched by defending champions PSV Eindhoven on Saturday.
Groningen, with three wins and one draw in the first
four matches of the new season, now have one point more than PSV, which defeated
Volendam on Saturday.
Against Feyenoord, which are struggling this season,
Groningen were determined in their attacking play. At the 10th minute, Kevin
Hofland of Feyenoord was sent off. Groningen took advantage of the situation
with Sepp de Roover scoring the first goal at the 22nd.
Groningen, which finished 7th last season, continued
to dominate the match. At the 81st minute, Marcus Berg doubled the hosts' lead
to 2-0. Six minutes later, Andre Bahia pulled one goal back for the visitors.
But Berg sealed the victory for Groningen in injury time, making it 3-1.
In other matches on Sunday, Ajax, last season's
runners-up, demolished Vitesse 3-0 at home, Den Haag were forced to a goalless
draw by Utrecht, Sparta Rotterdam finished 2-2 with Roda, and Nijmegen had to
settle for a 1-1 draw with Heracles.
On the league table, Breda stay at 3rd, followed by
Twente, DenHaag and Ajax.
