COLOMBO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and nine others were
injured in a suicide attack lunched by a Tamil Tiger rebel in northern Sri
Lanka, the military said on Sunday.
Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said that the suicide bomber on a push
cycle rammed into a three-wheeler carrying police in the Vavuniya town at around
03:15 p.m. local time (0945 GMT).
The driver of the three-wheeler was killed and nine others including four
police, three soldiers and two civilians were injured in the blast.
The suicide bomber was also killed in the explosion.
Vavuniya is the gateway to the north where government troops are currently
engaged in a battle to evict Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels from their
last strongholds.
