Special report: Palestine-Israel Relations
GAZA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian factions and political powers have rejected a request by Islamic Hamas movement to limit a planned national dialogue to Hamas and its rival Fatah, sources said on Sunday.
Hamas wanted to hold unilateral dialogue with Fatah first before opening the door for the rest of the factions, which rejected Hamas demands, the sources revealed.
Meanwhile, the sources said that Hamas and Fatah leaders will meet together on the sidelines of the Palestinian national dialogue which Egypt works hard to launch in the second half of the next month.
Currently, Egypt still waits to meet Hamas leaders next month before drafting its vision for a Palestinian reconciliation and presenting it to the Arab League.
According to the sources, Egypt's vision adopted some points that the Palestinian factions agree on, including the formation of a national unity government to overcome Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip and reform the Palestinian security services.
Israel sealed off crossing points into Gaza last year after Hamas routed forces of President Mahmoud Abbas, ousted his Fatah movement and took over control of the Gaza Strip. Abbas consolidated his power in the West Bank.
The sources, meanwhile, said that the Arab League will take measures against any Palestinian faction that may block the dialogue or its results.
According to the sources, if Hamas was blamed, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) will declare the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip a rebel region and will isolate it.
