HAMBURG, Germany, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Yuyuan Garden, a renowned
traditional Chinese-style garden in China's economic powerhouse Shanghai, now
has a replica in the German port city of Hamburg.
A mimic version of Yuyuan Garden, about 80 percent of the original size,
was unveiled on Thursday.
Covering 3,000 square meters, the garden will serve original Chinese food
and tea, and stage cultural events. The garden is dubbed Chinese Tea House by
local people.
With typical Chinese style pavilion and zigzag bridges above the ponds, the
Tea House has become a milestone scene for Hamburg, Germany's second largest
city and the sister city of Shanghai.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hamburg Mayor Ole von Beust said the Tea
House has set a good example for the close economic cooperation and cultural
exchange between Hamburg and Shanghai as well as that between Germany and China
at large.
The Chinese-style garden at the downtown Hamburg would increase the locals'
interest in China and Chinese culture and enhance dialogue between the two
peoples, he said.
