SANTIAGO, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Michelle Bachelet welcomed
Monday her Hungarian counterpart Laszlo Solyom in La Moneda Palace, who is on a
two-day official visit as part of a Latin American tour including Ecuador and
Peru.
The aim of Solyom's visit is to strengthen ties with Latin America, and to
consolidate the economic and trade exchange through specific projects.
Solyom will meet with representatives of the Supreme Court and the National
Congress in Chile and visit the cities of Rengo and Valparaiso.
Chile and Hungary returned to the democracy almost at the same time in
1990, allowing a special relation between both nations, which has been reflected
in diplomatic, political and multi-lateral areas.
In 2007, Chile's exports to Hungary reached 2.9 million U.S. dollars with
products such as fungicide, beans to sow, wines and blackberries, while its
import from Hungary was worth almost 18 million dollars with products like cell
phones, electric devices and construction materials.
