    BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The dairy supply for the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games were untainted by melamine because of "special management measures", China's top quality control official said here Wednesday.

"All the food supply, including dairy, for the Olympics and Paralympics were safe," Li Changjiang, head of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) told a press conference. Full story

    BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China will adjust its baby formula standards to allow tests of poisonous substances such as melamine, said the country's quality watchdog on Wednesday.

Li Changjiang, head of the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said melamine tests were not conducted before because it is not allowed in food.  Full story

Another company confirmed exporter in baby milk powder scare

    BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Another company based in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, was confirmed as an exporter among firms found with tainted products, Li Changjiang, head of the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said on Wednesday.

    The administration said on Tuesday night that Guangdong Yashili was the only brand being exported. Li said at a press conference that further checks showed Qingdao Suokang was also exporting.  Full story

China to test all dairy products for melamine

    BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China will conduct melamine tests on each and every dairy product by every producer in the market, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) head Li Changjiang said on Wednesday.

6,244 children sickened by tainted baby formula, 3 dead

    BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The melamine-contaminated baby formula has so far caused at least three deaths, up from two by Tuesday, China's Ministry of Health said here on Wednesday.

    The third occurred in southeastern Zhejiang Province, Health Minister Chen Zhu told a press conference Wednesday morning. Chen did not give further detailed information as to the dead infant. Full story
