Mexican president congratulates Paralympic gold, silver winners

    MEXICO CITY, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Felipe Calderon congratulated on Monday Mexican disabled sportsmen Nely Miranda and Dormaitzi Gonzalez, winners of gold and silver medals at the Beijing Paralympic Games.

    During a phone call, Calderon talked with Miranda, winner of two gold medals and with Gonzalez, winner of a silver at the 50m swimming.

    "Thanks to your discipline and determination, you place high the name of Mexico" during the Paralympics, Calderon said, according to a communique of the Presidency of the Republic.

    Calderon said he was happy for the two Mexican competitors who stood atop of the podium of the Beijing Paralympics twice on Monday.

    From Beijing, Mexican swimmers thanked Calderon and said that "the triumphs have been great and we believe that the aim was fulfilled."
