    BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The contaminated Sanlu baby milk powder in connection with the country's hundreds of infant kidney stone cases was only sold on the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, health ministry official Gao Qiang said on Saturday.

    "None of the milk powder was exported to other countries or regions," Gao said at a press conference.

    "Only a fraction of the milk powder was sold to Taiwan for food processing," he added.

    BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- "It is a severe food safety accident," said Gao Qiang, a senior Chinese health ministry official, on Saturday at a press conference, referring to a baby milk powder contamination case which has involved Sanlu Group.

    The country reported 432 sick babies suffering from kidney stones as of Friday, and the local government has ordered a halt of production of the Sanlu Group, the producer of the contaminated milk powder that preliminary investigation shows caused the disease, Gao said. Full story

Stores in China pull contaminated milk powder off shelves

    BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Carrefour and Wal-Mart stores in China are pulling Sanlu milk powder off shelves.

Milk powder sent for testing after dozens of babies get sick

    BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The number of babies sick in a milk powder scandal in China continues to grow as at least seven provinces are now reporting cases of kidney stones in infants.

    National food and health authorities are trying to find out if all the babies drank the same brand of milk powder. Samples had been sent to a state-run lab for analysis. Full story
