BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese powerlifter Xia Cuijuan has said the disabled people must have confidence and perseverance to overcome difficulties and make achievements.

"Us disabled athletes should be confident in ourselves," said Xiao, who claimed China's first powerlifting gold in Beijing Paralympics by winning the women's 44 kilograms category.

"As long as we have confidence and perseverance, we can achieve whatever we want," she added.

Xiao also said she was satisfied with her performance at the Beijing Paralympics, adding that she finally realized her dream.

"I feel very proud to present myself to the world and win honor for my country," said Xiao.

Xiao also said she is most grateful to her coach Tang Chunrong. "I started training with my coach since I was 15 years old, and considered him as my father," said Xiao.

Xiao was stricken by poliomyelitis when she was only one year old, and has to use crutches and wheelchairs since then.

She started her powerlifting career in 2000, and won a title in 2007 European Championships in Athens.

With a big smile and dollface, the 22-year-old is named by many people as the sweetest Paralympic champion.
