Chairman of Russia's State Duma, senior CPC official meet on bilateral ties

    MOSCOW, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of the State Duma, the lower house of Russia's parliament, Boris Gryzlov Thursday met with Wang Jiarui, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to discuss bilateral ties.

    Wang, head of a CPC delegation, arrived here Wednesday at the invitation of the United Russia Party.

    Gryzlov, leader of the United Russia Party, spoke highly of the Russia-China ties and the relations between the two parties.

    "Russia attaches great importance to its relations with China. Bilateral ties are at the best period in history," Gryzlov said.

    Through the exchange and cooperation between the parties of the two countries, particularly between the United Russia and the CPC, political mutual trust and bilateral ties have been strengthened, he said.

    The Russian lawmaker also commended the Beijing Olympics, saying the sports event demonstrated the unique charm of the Chinese culture as well as the new look of modern China.

    Wang, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the CPC is willing to promote exchange between the two parties.

    He also exchanged views with Gryzlov on important international and regional issues of common concern.
