Leaders of major Russian parties meet CPC delegation

    MOSCOW, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of four major Russian parties Thursday met with a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to discuss bilateral relations of the two countries.

    The United Russia Party's council presidium secretary Vyacheslav Volodin, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of the Communist Party of Russia Gennady Ziuganov, and the politburo secretary of A Just Russia Party Nikolai Levichev had talks with Wang Jiarui, who led the CPC delegation.

    Wang, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, paid great tribute to the Sino-Russian relations.

    "The China-Russia partnership of strategic cooperation has made remarkable achievements since it was established 12 years ago," Wang said, noting that high-level visits have been made frequently and mutual political trust consistently strengthened.

    The exchange between the parties of the two countries has kept forging ahead in recent years, with understanding and mutual trust deepened, he said.

    The CPC is willing to enhance the friendly relationship with major Russian parties, in a bid to enlarge the political basis of China-Russia partnership of strategic cooperation and promote the development of bilateral ties, said Wang.

    The leaders of the Russian parties spoke highly of the CPC's leading role in China's national construction, hoping to further the exchange and cooperation with the CPC and boost the bilateral relations to a new stage.

    They also commended the Beijing Olympics and expressed congratulations on Chinese athletes' brilliant victories.

    The CPC delegation arrived here Wednesday at the invitation of the United Russia Party.
