BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- "To prepare and
hold a successful Paralympic Games is a serious challenge to us as
it asks for more efforts and experience than the Olympic
Games," an official from the Games organizing committee said.
The preparation and operation of the Paralympics is
very complicated, "but the BOCOG at the beginning was equipped with little
knowledge about its organization and management," said Yang Shuan,
executive vice-president of the Beijing Olympics organizing committee (BOCOG),
in an exclusive interview with Xinhuanet Thursday.
Especially there are lots of technical details in the
competitions that demand meticulous care and delicate patience, said Yang,
"Therefore, more efforts are always needed in their organization."
"The BOCOG decided to appoint people who have
experience in international sports event for disabled people and are familiar
with the competitions to be in charge of the competition," said Yang.
"They embarked on the preparation work since 2004 Athens
Games. They learned from experience of the previous games, and tried
to master the characteristics and rules of different competitions in the
years."
"We adopt a special attitude in the preparation
work, including the construction of the venues, the selection of the equipment
and the humane service offered to the Paralympic athletes."
Overcoming so many difficulties in the preparation,
the BOCOG finally has won high praise from the International Paralympic
Committee. "The IPC believes that this is the best ever Paralympic Games,"
said Yang.
