Quake hits S Philippines

    MANILA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake traced from Indonesia jolted parts of southern Philippine Mindanao region Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

    Desilderio Cabanlit, officer-in-charge of Phivolcs Southern Mindanao said the quake measuring 6.7 magnitude was traced at 1.9 north latitude, 127.5 east latitude of Halmahera, Indonesia and was felt in parts of Mindanao at about 8 a.m., local news network INQUIRER.NET reported.

    No damage to property was reported and a tsunami alert was not necessary, he said.

    A shallow earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 rocked North Maluku province of Indonesia on Thursday morning, but no initial damage or casualties were reported.

    The local meteorology agency issued a tsunami warning, but no sign of tsunami was spotted.
