U.S. congratulates Angolan people on commitment in parliamentary race

    LUANDA, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Embassy of the United States in Angola here on Tuesday congratulated the Angolan people on the commitment and serenity shown during the September 5 parliamentary elections.

    U.S. Ambassador Dan Mozena who was conducting an assessment of the U.S. observer mission to the elections told reporters that he was satisfied with the way the electoral process was held countrywide.

    He said the electoral process was peaceful without intimidation of voters during the campaign and the voting exercise.

    The U.S. diplomat affirmed that the Angolan citizens, whether they are voters, electoral staff workers or observers, participated actively in the polls without feeling of fear and uncertainty as they showed in the 1992 elections.

    The U.S. observer team made up of 37 members monitor the elections in five provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Bie, Huambo and Uige.
