KABUL, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The U.S.-led Coalition forces on Monday detained two suspected militants while targeting the Haqqani terrorist network during an operation in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province, said a Coalition statement released here on Tuesday.

The operation targeted a suspected Haqqani militant in Mando Zayi district of Khost who is suspected of coordinating with other Haqqani subcommanders who carried out IED attacks, the statement said.

"The targeted militant was detained during the operation," it said.

Multiple AK-47s, grenades and other military equipment were found and destroyed by the force to prevent future use, it added.

Jalaludin Haqani, who served as a minister and chief of army staff during Taliban regime in Afghanistan, is a close aide to Taliban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar and has been leading Taliban fighters in east Afghanistan to mount pressure on Afghan government and international troops deployed there in the post-Taliban nation.

Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 3,700 people with more than 800 civilians, so far this year.
