LAGOS, Sept. 5 (Xinhua)-- Nigeria's Super Eagles face South Africa on Saturday in a game that will determine the hosts' continued campaign in the qualifiers, although the team is almost assured of a place in the next phase of the 2010 African and World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles have amassed the maximum points in all four games played in June against the South Africans, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea but have not been fully stretched. Saturday's game promises to be different as the hosts will be determined to dent the 100 percent record of Coach Shaibu Amodu and his players.
A slip in the game means the South Africans will not be in Angola for the African Nations Cup in Angola in two years time. Daniel Amokachi, assistant coach said the Eagles were in South Africa to win.
"We are not here in Port Elizabeth to joke, instead it is another winning outing for the Eagles," he said. Also speaking ahead of the Saturday encounter, Peter side Idah, Nigeria's media co-coordinator said the Eagles are in good spirit.
The hosts will attack from the kick-off in the game planned for the patchy pitch in Port Elizabeth. Meanwhile, South Africa's striker, Bennie McCarthy who did not take part in the June matches, has returned to the squad and his presence will boost the young side, still attempting to ensure it impressed at the World Cup on home soil in 2010.
The controversial striker of Blackburn Rovers has urged the Super Eagles to come to the EPRU Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday for their 2010 Nations Cup/World Cup qualifying game against South Africa with bags of handkerchiefs.
McCarthy, who rubbished Blackburn's claim that he was fat and unfit for the encounter, said on Thursday he would be all over the field firing on all cylinders on Saturday to help his country qualify for the next stage of the qualifiers.
"Nigeria must not think they can come here and go home with a smile on their faces. We will make sure they are not smiling after Saturday," McCarthy was quoted saying by Despatch online on Thursday.
"We will fight them all the way. We all know how important this game is to the country. I know Nigeria is a class side but we are at home and must win at all costs. "We all know we have to win to stay in with a chance of reaching Angola in 2010. We are up for it."
According to him, the Bafana Bafana would draw inspiration from their 2-2 draw with Australia in a friendly in London to go for victory over Nigeria. "We got our pride back and we know no matter who plays for Nigeria against us, will be fighting to beat us. Butwe showed a lot of spirit against Australia and we must continue from there," he said.
Joel Santana, coach of the Bafana Bafana promised the South Africans victory over the Eagles, adding that the players were battle-ready for the encounter. "Nigeria is a good side but we are going to win," he said.
