TOKYO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks plunged over 2 percent Friday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 345.43 points, or 2.75 percent,
from Thursday to 12,212.23.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock
Exchange was down 30.81 points, or 2.56 percent, to 1,170.84.
On the First Section, declining issues outnumbered advancing ones 1,445 to
227, with 43 others remaining unchanged.
Value leader Mizuho Financial Group plunged 28,000 yen, or over6 percent,
to 413,000 yen.
Volume leader Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group lost 43 yen, or over 5
percent, to 750 yen.
Trading volume on the main section came to 2,279.24 million shares, up from
Thursday's 2,133.21 million.
The TSE's Second Section index was down 35.18 points, or 1.41 percent, to
2,455.73 on a volume of 53.00 million shares.
On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term September Nikkei 225 index
futures contract was down 380 points to 12,200.
