MOSCOW, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Foreign ministers from the members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Thursday called on all the states to evaluate the situation in South Ossetia objectively, local media reported.

    "The ministers of the CSTO states are deeply concerned over the military actions in South Ossetia, taken by the Georgian side, which resulted in numerous casualties among civilians, death of peacekeepers and a humanitarian catastrophe," said a joint statement issued by the CSTO Thursday.

    The statement pointed to the danger of increasing military deployments to the Caucasus and the attempts to use force in resolving conflicts, as well as the politics of double standards in international relations, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

    The foreign ministers urged all the countries to approach the evaluation of the situation in a balanced way, and not to take actions capable of provoking further aggravation.

    The ministers "support the active role of Russia in contributing to peace and cooperation in the Caucasus and call for ensuring firm security for South Ossetia and Abkhazia on the basis of the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act and other fundamental documents of international law."

    They also appealed for strict adherence to the Medvedev-Sarkozy peace plan in order "to thwart new attempts to use force in settling the conflict and securing peace and stability in the region."
