WARSAW, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Tuesday that the CIA did not operate secret prisons in Poland where terrorism suspects were interrogated when he was Poland's defence minister and later.

    "I have commented the issue as defense minister and I can take the responsibility for what I know and for what took place when I was responsible for military installations," Sikorski said in an interview with Polish Radio ZET.

    "I can once again categorically confirm -- during the time of the Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jaroslaw Kaczynski governments, and also now, nothing like that has taken place in Poland," Sikorski said.

    Reports about CIA (the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency) prisons in Europe first appeared in November 2005 in the U.S. media.

    In 2007 Poland was mentioned in a Council of Europe report as the country where "at least one secret prison near Szymany in northeastern Poland existed from 2002 to 2005."

    The Polish government has routinely denied that CIA prisons were on Polish soil.

    Polish prosecutors are investigating whether CIA had secret "rendition" prisons in Poland, according to press reports.
