WARSAW, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Polish and Portuguese Presidents, Lech Kaczynski and Anibal Cavaco Silva, met in Warsaw on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Georgia, Ukraine and the future fate of the Lisbon Treaty.

President Silva started a three-day official visit to Poland on Tuesday, according to Polish news agency PAP.

At a joint press conference following the two presidents talks, President Kaczynski stressed that Portugal "is our double ally," a country active on the Polish economic market.

The president said that he discussed with his partner European affairs, among others the future of the Lisbon Treaty and the Mediterranean Union.

Referring to the future of the Lisbon Treaty, Kaczynski said that both he and President Silva have a positive attitude but added that there is the question of Ireland which "must solve this problem by itself."

President Silva assessed that Poland and Portugal have very good political relations, adding that his present visit will contribute to further development of economic, cultural and scientific relations between the two countries.

"Portugal and Poland have very good political relations. We are allies within NATO and in the European Union and despite the distance which divides us, we often have similar stands," said the Portuguese guest. ¡¡
