Afghan only Paralympic athlete to compete in powerlifting

    KABUL, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan Olympic Committee has sent a five -member delegation to the Beijing Paralympic Games and the only athlete Mohammad Fahim Rahimi will compete in weightlifting, the country's Olympic committee said on Tuesday.

    Afghan Olympic chief Mohammad Anwar Jagdalik told Xinhua that the Afghan Paralympic team left for Beijing last Sunday.

    "Mohammad Fahim Rahimi who will attend weightlifting event is the only player in the delegation," Jagdalik said.

    The top NOC official noted that they did not expect any medal in the Games, saying the presence of the Afghan team is the most important.

    In the Beijing Olympics, Afghan taekwondo player Rohullah Nikpay obtained a first ever Olympic medal and he is accepted as a hero by in the country.
