GAZA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Rafah crossing point opened its gates for the second day for stuck patients, students and stranded Palestinian residents of foreign countries.

Four hundred Palestinian patients and their companions are leaving the Gaza Strip Sunday for medical treatment in Egypt and other countries.

On Saturday, 1952 people crossed into Egypt from the Gaza Strip, most of them residents of Arab and foreign countries and some 150 Egyptians who had been stuck in Gaza since January, according to the crossing points department at the Hamas police.

Some 882 Palestinians, who were stranded at the Egyptian side of the border, made their way into Gaza Saturday, said Mohammed Adwan, spokesman for the department.

Adwan said the interior ministry of Hamas arranges the arrival of the travelers to the crossing in order to avoid a human flow at the terminal.

Rafah crossing point was completely closed last year when Hamas routed security forces of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and took control of the Gaza Strip. Abbas' presidential guard and European Union monitors used to control the crossing since 2005, according to a U.S.-brokered protocol.

Hamas rejects the agreement and demands a role on Rafah crossing while Egypt sticks to the international agreement.
