LUSAKA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's biggest opposition party, the Patriotic Front (PF), has unanimously nominated party leader Michael Sata as its candidate for the forthcoming presidential by-elections following the death of President Levy Mwanawasa, according to Sunday Mail.
Accepting the nomination on Saturday after a central committee meeting held in Lusaka, Sata said the task ahead of him and the party was not easy, according to the Zambian newspaper.
He said "I totally accept and will not let you down. We have to scrub this country and wash it.
Sata said he do not want to behave like other politicians who have started campaigning even before Mwanawasa is laid to rest.
The by-elections will be held within 3 months after the death of Mwanawasa.
Mwanawasa died on August 19 in a French hospital, where he was evacuated to on July 1, after suffering a stroke in Egypt on June 29 this year.
