WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The United States said Friday it was not surprised by Georgia's break of diplomatic ties with Moscow.

"I don't find any of this surprising, given the actions of the past three weeks," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

Perino reiterated the call for Russia to respect Georgia's territorial integrity.

"South Ossetia and Abkhazia are a part of Georgia under U.N.-recognized laws, in fact, laws and Security Council resolutions that Russia itself has supported. Georgia's territorial integrity should be intact," Perino said.

Earlier Friday, Georgia announced to cut diplomatic ties with Russia and Russia has expressed regret over the Georgian move.

Georgia, in military conflicts with Russia over the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, has been a close U.S. ally.
