KABUL, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- One service member with the U.S.-led Coalition forces was killed while conducting a patrol in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, according to a statement Thursday.
"The name and nationality of the service member is being withheld until next of kin notification is complete," said the statement, adding that the incident is under investigation.
Meanwhile, one militant was killed and two others were detained during a Coalition forces operation to disrupt militant activities in eastern Afghanistan's Paktika province on Wednesday.
"Coalition forces searched compounds in Gayan district targeting an individual affiliated with anti-coalition militant leaders, said the Coalition statement, adding "a militant was killed by small-arms fire and two others were arrested."
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed over 3,000 people's lives so far this year.
