French president lauds Beijing Olympic Games

    PARIS, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The just-ended Beijing Olympic Games were a splendid sports event, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Tuesday.

    Sarkozy made the remarks at a meeting with the French Olympic team at the Elysee Palace.

    The French president praised China's excellent organizational work of the Games, during which he said quite a few world and Olympic records were broken.

    In France, all people went crazy about the Beijing Olympic Games, he said.

    Sarkozy also congratulated French athletes on their excellent performance at the Games, and urged them to quickly start preparations for London 2012.
