LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Hollywood's major studios have almost stopped their shootings of big-budget films in this so-called "capital of cinema industry" and across much of the United States, according to a report Tuesday.
The slowdown of filming is partly a result of scheduling decision studios made a year ago to prepare for a possible actors strike, as most big-budget movies for next year have already wrapped by the middle of this year.
Only one major studio project, DreamWorks' sci-fi film "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," is shooting on location in Los Angeles, compared with seven studio films in production this time last year, said the Los Angeles Times report.
Hollywood actors and major studios have not been able to reach agreement on a new labor contract after their previous three-year contract expired on June 30. The two sides remain far apart on terms.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles region has seen a steady outflow of feature film projects to other countries and U.S. states, about 40of which now offer a plethora of production rebates and tax breaks that aren't available in California.
Since peaking in 1996, annual film production has declined in nine of the last 11 years in Los Angeles, according to Film L.A., the nonprofit group that coordinates film permits for the city.
