TEHRAN, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that Iran is working with EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana for further talks on the country's nuclear program, the English-language Press TV satellite channel reported.
The main issue at present is how to initiate a fresh round of talks with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany, Mottaki said.
The resumption of talks was put forward during the Geneva talks, he said, adding that the common points offered in the West's package of incentives and Iran's proposals could provide the groundwork for the next round of talks.
Mottaki also said Iran's response to the West's proposals was not on the agenda at present.
"The West's clear response to Iran's package could pave the way for Tehran's transparent response," he said.
As a good will gesture, Iran is ready to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he added.
Six major countries recently agreed to consider new sanctions against Iran in the wake of remarks by Western governments saying Iran failed to give a "clear positive response" to their latest offer of incentives.
On June 14, Solana handed the offer of incentives to the Iranian authorities on behalf of France, Britain, Russia, China, the United States and Germany during his visit to Tehran in a bid to persuade Iran to halt uranium enrichment.
Iran has also presented its own package of proposals, which it said was aimed to help resolve regional and international problems, including Iran's nuclear issue.
On July 19, in Geneva, Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili sat at the negotiating table with the Solana and representatives of six major powers, the first time that the talks took place with the presence of a U.S. diplomat.
The IAEA said in a report in May that the alleged Iranian research into nuclear warheads was a "serious concern." Its next report on Iran is due in September when the seasonal meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will be held.
The United States and its allies have accused Iran of developing nuclear weapons, but Iran insists that its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
Iran till now has been under three UN sanctions over its disputed nuclear program.
