Most Canadians satisfied at team performance in Beijing

    OTTAWA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Canadians are satisfied at almost everything about the Beijing Olympics, especially team Canada's performance and the organization work of China, according a new poll released Monday.

    The poll done by Canadian Press and Harris Decima polling company showed that up to 79 percent of those surveyed were eithervery satisfied (26 percent) or satisfied (53 percent) at the athletes' performance. Only nine percent were dissatisfied.

    Canada won 18 medals in Beijing, including three gold, nine silver and six bronze, which is the country's second-best performance ever at a non-boycotted Games.

    China's efforts at organizing and running the Olympics also metwith a solid majority of support as 66 percent of those surveyed said they were either very impressed (31 percent) or somewhat impressed (37 percent).

    Television coverage by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Sports, English and French, also received high marks. Seventy-two percent of Canadians who answered the survey thought the coverage was either excellent (35 percent) or good (37 percent).

    Across the country, 77 percent said they watched some portion of the Games on television, with the average person taking in 13.76 hours.

    "As it turned out, the general sentiment is that the Games werea success, Canada's athletes performed admirably and the coverage provided by the CBC was well regarded, too," said Bruce Anderson, Harris-Decima president.

    The poll was taken between last Thursday and the closing of theGames on Sunday. A sample of this size has a margin of error of 3.1 percent 19 times out of 20.
