JAKARTA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A powerful shallow quake with magnitude of 6.6 rocked West Java province of Indonesia on Tuesday, with potential for tsunami, the Indonesian Meteorology Agency said.
The quake was felt up nearby Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, with intensity of 2 to 3 MMI (modified mercally intensity), an official of the agency, named Hidayanti, said.
The quake struck at 10:07 a.m. (0307 GMT) with epicenter at 125kilometers northwest of Ujungkulon in West Java province and 20 kilometers under seabed, she said.
"We have issued a tsunami warning," Hidayanti told Xinhua.
Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone, so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that causes frequent volcanic movements.
