Nigerien president congratulates China on success of Beijing Olympics

    LOME, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Nigerien President Mamadou Tandja Monday congratulated China on the successful conclusion of the Beijing Olympics, according to news reaching here from Niger's capital of Niamey.

    During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Niger Chen Gonglai, Tandja said the Beijing Olympics, the best sports event ever in Olympic history, fully displayed the extraordinary organizational ability of the Chinese government and the Chinese people.

    It is a victory achieved by the Chinese government and the Chinese people after overcoming various difficulties and is a fruit born by the Chinese people's remarkable patriotism.

    The president said he himself, as an old friend of China, felt extremely happy for China's success, and the Nigerien people also share the Chinese people's joy.

    He hoped that China and Niger will continue to boost their exchange and cooperation in such fields as youth affairs and sports.

    Chen, for his part, expressed his thanks to Tandja, the Nigerien government and the Nigerien people for their support to the Beijing Olympics.
