HANOI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said here Monday that Beijing Olympics is a " successful and unprecedented" sports event.

Khiem, who is also Vietnamese Foreign Minister, made the remarks when meeting with visiting Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Dawei.

The Beijing Olympics is a showcase for China's excellent organizing skills, said Khiem, adding it also demonstrated that China has become a big sports power.

Khiem said Vietnam attached great importance to the Vietnam- China relations. Vietnam would like to work together with China to push forward the bilateral relations to a new level.

Khiem said he hoped Vietnam and China would work closely to speed up the process of land border demarcation and achieve the goal set by top leaders of the two countries to end the land border demarcation by the end of this year.

For his part, the Chinese deputy foreign minister thanked the Vietnamese Party and government for their support of the Beijing Olympics. He said China would join hands with Vietnam to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation to serve the benefits of the two peoples.
