JAKARTA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted Ternate, capital of North Maluku province, at 5:10 a.m. on Monday.
The epicenter of the quake was located 126 km northwest of Ternate at a depth of 101 km, the national Antara news agency on Monday quoted the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) as saying.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
North Maluku province lies at the meeting point of the country's two main chains of volcanoes. ¡¡
