    It's easy and exhilarating to get caught up in the glory of the Olympics. Of Michael Phelps's eight gold medals, and Nastia Liukin's five-medal total. Of sprinter Usain Bolt's world record of 19.30 seconds in men's 200m. Of U.S. cagers's comeback to top of the world, winning Olympic gold with clean sheet.
        
        
But the Olympic spirit embodies more. And sometimes its glory can be found in its sorrow. These are heartbreaks amid the glory.

U.S. drops baton in men's 4x100m relay, disqualified for finals

Tyson Gay of the United States lost the baton during the men's 4 x 100m relay first round at the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, during Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 21, 2008. The United States team did not finish the competition. Full story
