LUSAKA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Zambian soccer Division Two player, Emmanuel Wasamunu of the Kuomboka Rangers team, has been handed a life ban by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for beating up a referee, the Post reported on Thursday.
FAZ spokesperson Emmanuel Munaile made the announcement at a press briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Munaile said the disciplinary committee last Saturday was satisfied with evidence that Wasamunu beat up a referee in an abortive league fixture against Coca-Cola.
Munaile said Kuomboka was also fined 1.5 million kwacha (about 3,500 kwacha to 1 U.S. dollar), with Coca-Cola being awarded three points.
He said Livingstone Police had also been fined 1.5 million kwacha and forfeited three points to Savoury, after goalkeeper Arnold Mwanza was sent off for using abusive language and the game was abandoned in the second half.
Munaile also said that Lima United was fined 500,000 kwacha and forfeited three points to Communite for presenting forged cards during a league game.
And TP Rangers had been fined 1.5 million kwacha for causing the abandonment of the game against Kafue United.
This was after TP Rangers players walked out of the pitch to contest a goal and the decision by the referee to allow the goal stand.
All the 11 players who were on the pitch walked out, and were fined 100,000 kwacha each for their misbehavior.
Other cases heard involved Chilanga Heroes versus Lusaka Celtic, Chadiza versus Police Bullets, Ndola United versus Zamtel, and Katete Rangers versus Juventus.
