KUNMING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- About 1,200
people have been evacuated after a tremor measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale
hit a county in southwest China's Yunnan Province early on Wednesday.
The tremor struck Yingjiang County, of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, with the epicenter at 25.1 degrees north and 97.9 degrees east, according to the Provincial Earthquake Bureau.
About 8,500 people in 15 townships were affected, but no casualties have been reported.
As of 4 p.m., five rooms of housing had collapsed and 2,400 had been damaged. Rural roads, schools and hospitals were also damaged, the Yingjiang county government said.
The county has activated an emergency quake response system.
