Estonian president congratulates discus champion

RIGA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves Tuesday called Gerd Kanter congratulating him for winning the discus gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing on the same day.

According to reports from the Estonian capital Tallinn, Ilves said Kanter's gold medal is a best gift for Estonian people who were celebrating their traditional festival on the same day.

Kanter won the gold medal in the men's discus at the Beijing Olympics with a throw of 68.82 meters. This is the first gold for Estonia at the ongoing Beijing Olympics. Enditem
